How it is calculated

The calculation is:

Calories = MET × weight (kg) × duration (hours)

MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) is a standardized intensity value. The curated list covers common activities; values come from the 2011 Compendium of Physical Activities.

How to interpret the result

The result is a gross estimate of total calories burned during the activity, not the extra calories burned compared with resting. Heavier people and higher-intensity activities burn more.
