Unlicensed dairy seized in Siracusa, cheese tests positive for brucellosis

Near Siracusa, in Priolo Gargallo, on 25 July the Police, in collaboration with the provincial health authority, sealed off an unlicensed dairy. 259 kilograms of cheese were seized. Analyses carried out by the Provincial Hospital Authority on several samples revealed the presence of the bacterium "Brucella melitensis biovar 3", responsible for the infectious disease of the same name, brucellosis.
