The USA blocks the import of shellfish from Korea

The Food and Drug Administration (the equivalent of Italy's Istituto Superiore di Sanità combined with the European EFSA) has ordered the recall from the market of oysters, clams, mussels, scallops and other products coming from Korea that entered the U.S. market before May 2012, because they are potentially harmful to health, since they may have been exposed to fecal waste and contaminated with Norovirus.
The FDA has in fact determined that the Korean Shellfish Sanitation Program (KSSP) no longer meets the health criteria of the U.S. National Shellfish Sanitation Program. The FDA found serious deficiencies such as inadequate health controls, ineffective management of the territory in the face of major pollution problems, and the presence of Norovirus in areas intended for shellfish farming.
