2013, ever less (red) meat in the Italian diet

The first two months of 2013 recorded a 7% reduction in cattle slaughtering compared with 2012.
Almost one Italian in 3, that is 32%, eats nothing but a plate of pasta for lunch, and only 18% say they have a complete lunch every day with a first course, a main course, a side dish and dessert or fruit.
This is the picture that emerges from a survey by Coldiretti conducted online on its own website, with which it intends to monitor the effects of the economic crisis on the eating habits of Italians.
Coldiretti also monitors purchasing behavior, and so it emerges, from a survey conducted together with SWG, that it is not only habits at the table that have changed, but the very concept of "doing the grocery shopping": 26 million Italians go hunting for the lowest prices, even experimenting with forms that until now were not very widespread, such as "purchasing groups" (now almost at 20%), online shopping or buying directly from the producer. Money-saving practices are also evident in phenomena such as "car pooling", the sharing of a means of transport to do the shopping as a group, thus saving on fuel.
