Packaged snacks invade 21 million households

The packaged snack market is worth 980 million euros, with 217 thousand tonnes produced in Italy every year.
The figures come from the website ''merendineitaliane.it'', according to which snacks aimed at children have an almost total penetration rate, equal to 100% in Italian homes with children. In particular -the specialized site notes- the penetration rate is 93% across all households and 100% in those with small children. It is also certified that the invasion of snacks into homes is quantified at 21 million, with an annual per capita consumption of 3.5 kg. In pole position among the various types on the market is the croissant category, which accounts for 34% of sales, followed by snack slices (33%), mini cakes (20%), tarts (6%), small pies (4%) and filled rolls (3%). The breakdown by sales channel is led by supermarkets (50%), followed by hypermarkets (15%), self-service outlets (15%), discount stores (11.5%) and traditional grocery shops (8.5%).
